An oloid is a form in which two circles—the simplest of geometric elements—relate to one another to create a single, continuous volume and motion. Rather than presenting one fixed face, it reveals different surfaces and curves as it moves, holding many perspectives and possibilities within a single form.
Industrial design, too, begins from the same fundamentals, yet never arrives at a single answer. Shared elements such as form and function, material and use expand into entirely different outcomes depending on where a designer looks and how they connect them. The principle of the oloid—simple elements forming unexpected shapes through their relationships—mirrors this process of design.
Through this graduation exhibition, the Industrial Design Part of the Department of Design and Formative Arts at Dong-eui University presents how different perspectives and attempts, starting from the same point, expand into forms of their own. Just as a single oloid reveals many faces as it moves, each design gathered here suggests the broad possibilities that industrial design holds.
